Mission :
The mission of the Twinsburg High School (THS) Department of Mathematics is to provide all students with an understanding of the logical structure and style of mathematics appropriate to their grade level. We will provide students with the mathematics foundation required to continue on into college to pursue a meaningful career in mathematics, mathematics teaching, science, or related fields. The THS Department of Mathematics will help students develop quantitative and abstract reasoning and the ability to use mathematics as a computational and analytical tool.
Goals
The goals of the THS Mathematics Department are as follows:
- to enable all students to learn the basic concepts and skills of mathematics
- to provide a mathematical background for all students that is appropriate to their needs and abilities
- to enable all students who are prepared to learn advanced mathematical concepts and analytical skills
- to stimulate curiosity, encourage persistence and develop mathematical maturity and growth
- to encourage and develop mathematical imagination grounded in intellectual independence
In the math department we do use common assessments and for this reason teachers do not allow students to keep major tests. Teachers do keep the tests and if students want to review them to study they will need to check the tests out through their teacher. If a student works with a tutor and wants to have that test to review with the tutor, the tutor will need to sign the test out through the teacher and return it.
