Hello Samuel Bissell Elementary School Families!

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about Samuel Bissell.  We may be a little biased, but we have the BEST students, staff and teachers! We strive every day to ensure your children are getting the best education possible in a safe and nurturing learning environment. We believe in and recite our mission each day, “Every day we show respect to our school and one another. Through hard work and organization, we strive to reach our goals. We celebrate our achievements and take responsibility for our actions and our learning.” We start with a positive attitude and we show GRIT (Give it your all, Respond with a positive attitude, Independent thinker, Totally engaged) in all that we do!

Just as tigers roar in the wild, at Samuel Bissell Elementary School, we give our little tigers the building blocks to learn to R.O.A.R through Respect, Organization, Achievements and Responsibility.

We have included several resources that can be used at home to help enhance the home/school partnership.  Please feel free to use the resources below as you work with your child each night.  Just a reminder that all students should read and practice math facts nightly.

Reading
To improve comprehension skills, please visit www.harcourtschool.com/menus/preview/trophies/preview.html . This interactive site will allow your child to choose from a variety of activities to improve their reading skills. Another great site to improve comprehension is www.k12reader.com , where if you scroll down along the left column, you can find appropriate Reading Comprehension Worksheets.

If your access to a computer is limited, there are other things you can do to help your child. To improve your child’s ability to read non-fiction material, read real-life text with them, such as the newspaper, menus, game directions, etc. and talk about it. The same thing can be done with improving fiction skills. Be sure to ask questions throughout the reading to check for understanding.

Math

Samuel Bissell Elementary School also offers many great websites to assist your child as they improve their math skills. By clicking the following link: http://www.twinsburg.k12.oh.us/InternetResources.aspx, and scrolling down to the Math section, you will have access to many great resources, which will help your child become a more proficient math student.

You can also use http://www.twinsburg.k12.oh.us/InternetResources.aspx, to find many great resources across the curriculum.
