The potential for SCHOOL CLOSINGS and/or TWO-HOUR DELAYS may occur during the  school year. The determination as to whether school is closed or delayed begins at approximately 4:00 a.m. School district employees assess the road conditions by driving throughout the school district. Other area school and city officials are consulted before the final decision is made to delay or close school.
Generally, the superintendent will follow the recommendations of a number of officials and make the decision to close or delay school between 5:15 a.m. and 5:45 a.m.As soon as the decision is made to delay or close school, an automated Blackboard Connect message will be sent to parents/guardians and staff members. To allow for a successful automated phone system process to occur, please assist us in making sure your contact information with current phone number(s) is updated. Kindly update your contact information at your child's school if anything has changed since you submitted information at the beginning of the school year.

A notice of a school closing or two-hour delay will be posted on the District Website, broadcast by television stations, radio stations and the District’s Blackboard Connect Notification Service when schools are closed for the safety of the students and staff.

In the event of a delayed start to school, that delay will be a two-hour delay. Bus schedules will be adjusted by two hours and the schools will begin two hours after their regularly scheduled start times. The school day will end at the normal scheduled time. A delay is called if we believe that conditions may clear enough for classes to be held. Parents/guardians should continue to monitor TV and radio stations because the possibility remains that if the conditions do not improve, school may be cancelled for the entire day. Also, a second Blackboard Connect message will be sent if, in fact, school closes for the day.

Morning vocational school bus service (CVCC) and morning preschool classes will be cancelled in the event of a delay or closing. Private school transportation will also be on the two-hour delay schedule.

• TV Stations: 3, 5, 8, 19
• Radio Stations: WTAM, News Radio 1100 AM, WCLV 104.9 FM, Magic 105.7 FM, WMMS - 100.7 FM, WGAR, Country 99.5 FM, WKDD 98.1 FM, WAKS, KISS 96.5 FM, and WHLO 640 AM.
It is important for parents/guardians to have a plan in place in the event of a school delay or closing. Children tend to adjust to the situation if you have reviewed your family's plan ahead of time.

Additional Information

Blackboard Connect Notification Service will send automated telephone messages to parents and legal guardians about school emergencies or events, school delays or cancellations due to inclement weather, as well as remind you of Open Houses and Conferences. You will also be called to verify your child's absence if we have not heard from you.

The successful use of this system is dependent upon accurate contact information for each student, so please make certain that we have current phone numbers. On the first day of school, your student brought home a Student Emergency Card which had a special area for three contact numbers to be used for the new school year. All three numbers will receive absence, emergency, and snow day calls. In addition, the first listed number will receive general calls. Please update the form and return it to your student's building as soon as possible if needed.
