Social-Emotional Resources

  • The Zones of Regulation creates a systematic approach to teach regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete colored zones. Integrating in cognitive behavior therapy,  students build skills in emotional and sensory regulation, executive functioning, and social cognition. The framework is designed to help move students toward more independent regulation while also honoring and respecting each student and their unique self. The website has free downloads that can be used with your child.

  • I encourage my students to use healthy coping strategies when they experience feelings that may be difficult to deal with. Here is a link to a fantastic website with many to look through and choose from.

  • Anxiety is a growing concern among parents and teachers of young children. With younger students, it may be harder for them to pinpoint exactly what they are feeling and experiencing. The link below has a wealth of information regarding the signs of anxiety in children, different subtypes of anxiety, and contains a number of resources for parents of students who might be experiencing anxiety.

  • Some 2nd and 3rd graders struggle with making and maintaining healthy friendships for a number of reasons. Having a healthy relationship with classmates and friends is vital to maintaining a happy, safe school environment.

  • It can be tough to communicate our feelings when we are experiencing a lot of emotions. It is important to maintain open and respectful communication when we are having an argument or disagreement. Using the I-message template can help us explain how we feel as well as propose a solution to the problem at hand. By using this straightforward, solution-focused model of communication, students can maintain respect while sharing their feelings.
