What are School Counselors?

"Elementary school counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, selfmanagement and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students. They implement a school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success." - ASCA

    Parent Toolkit is a one-stop resource developed with parents in mind. It’s produced by NBC News Learn and supported by Pearson and includes information about almost every aspect of your child’s development, because they're all connected.

  • PBS for Parents

    This site contains various topics such as child development, curriculum connections, and technology for kids. It also shares information on hot issues in education. There are also games, stories and guides to the TV programs offered by PBS.

  • FunBrain

    Educational site that consists of interactive educational games, videos, and "books on the run". It allows the parent to find resources based on grade level.

  • KidsHealth for Parents

    This is a great resource if you're looking for information on anything related to children, their development, learning, health, and social emotional skills.

  • Family Matters

    National Association of School Psychologist have made handouts publicly available as a public service to provide parents and teachers with up-to-date information and proven, solutions-based strategies for home and classroom applications.
