Superintendent Kathi Powers will recommend to the Twinsburg City School District Board of Education at their next meeting on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 Chris Mohnacky as its new Twinsburg High School Varsity Wrestling Coach. Mohnacky replaces Dave Mariola, who announced his retirement this summer following a 37-year Hall of Fame career as Twinsburg's Wrestling Program leader.
"Coach Mohnacky's energy and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling will do nothing but great things for our wrestling program," said Brian Fantone, Twinsburg Athletic Director and K-12 Coordinator of Student Activities. "I'm looking forward to seeing the direction he takes this program over the next few years. Coach Mohnacky brings many fresh ideas and plans to increase participation from the Twinsburg Youth Wrestling Program through the Twinsburg High School Varsity Wrestling Team."
Mohnacky won't be a stranger to the program as he has spent the past eight years as an Assistant Coach under Mariola.
"I am beyond excited and thankful for the opportunity to be the face of a storied program like Twinsburg Wrestling. The community support provides a great opportunity as well as a unique challenge. The bar was set extremely high by Dave Mariola and the generations of talented wrestlers and great men that have come through the room," offered Mohnacky. "I desire to revitalize the numbers of participants, as well as foster an environment where the children in the community are encouraged to wrestle and the parents are involved as well. It is no secret that wrestling is hard. However, wrestling has provided me with numerous life lessons like being disciplined, having courage, and fighting through adversity. It is these lessons, along with countless others, that I look forward to instilling in the young men and women in the Twinsburg wrestling community."
Before serving as an assistant for Twinsburg's program, Mohnacky worked as the Head Varsity Wrestling Coach at Normandy High School for one season and as an Assistant Coach there for seven seasons. In addition, he wrestled in high school at North Royalton. Mohnacky is currently a Science teacher at Twinsburg High School.
"We are pleased that the Wrestling Program will have continuity under Coach Mohnacky while also having someone who has a strong vision for the future," stated Twinsburg Superintendent Kathi Powers. "We believe that Coach Mohnacky will bring much to the role and we look forward to having him lead future generations of Tiger wrestlers."
