Office Suite

Students will be able to build on the previously learned skills in Microsoft Office applications by seeing how the applications can be used as a tool in their educational and professional progression.  Using WORD students will learn to properly format in detail documents such as tables, letters, outlines, research papers, and bibliographies.  Students will create worksheets in EXCEL that includes using formulas, such as IF statements, VLOOKUP statements, PMT statements, FV statements, averaging, MAX and MIN, and other paste function formulas.  In addition to the basic formatting of spreadsheets, such as sorting, students will learn to use various charting features.  Students will create databases, tables, queries, forms, and mail merges with ACCESS.  PowerPoint emphasis will include how to prepare and present a professional presentation.  MS Publisher will also be used in the class.  Throughout completing projects, students will learn to use program templates, how to insert graphics, and they will complete various Internet activities.
Many of the projects that the students will complete in my Office Suite course will simulate business projects.  For example, in a project using Word, they will work on a marketing team to create a brochure to sell package deals for a professional/college athletic team.  In this activity students will learn the four P's in marketing.  A few examples in Excel are as follows:  they complete projects to calculate gross pay, deductions from gross pay, net pay, commission pay based on a tiered commission scale, revenue, expenses, profit, and projections.
