This week, some of our Wilcox Primary School students were highlighted in the Akron Beacon Journal! Assistant Principal Mr. Scott Astey, shared with the reporter the importance of social-emotional learning and how Wilcox Primary School is meeting that need.
One of the ways mentioned was the Zones of Regulation Curriculum the teachers and the staff have implemented and supported. The Zones of Regulation program teaches students how to self-regulate in a safe, non-judgmental way. For the article, our students participated in Zones of Regulation activities with School Counselor, Mrs. Esther Boutros. Students received an introductory lesson on the four zones and the feelings corresponding to each zone. They also explored calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports.
