The Start with Hello program “enables students to make a difference with their peers in a simple, fun and impactful way by encouraging them to take small but powerful actions to promote connectedness and inclusion, and to identify and help others who are showing signs of social isolation,” according to Sandy Hook Promise.
Students at George G. Dodge Intermediate School promoted a more inclusive environment by writing essays/poems about unity and acceptance, having meaningful conversations with classmates during their Unity Meetings, and ended the week with a Mix-It-Up at Lunch.
In this culminating event, students were randomly assigned lunch tables, where older student leaders and staff began conversations at each table to help create new friendships and connections! The cafeteria was all smiles.
