The team includes school counselors, nurses, health assistants, speech and language therapists, occupational therapist, physical therapist, parent mentors and school psychologists. They work together with teachers, administrators, and parents in building Intervention Assistance Teams. These teams use a collaborative problem solving process to help understand student strengths and needs. The team then designs appropriate interventions for each student. The GUIDANCE STAFF consists of one counselor for Wilcox Primary and Bissell Elementary, one counselor for Dodge Intermediate, one and a half counselors at R. B. Chamberlin Middle and three and a half counselors at Twinsburg High. Peer mediation, conflict resolution, individual record keeping, character education and support groups are a focus each school year.

Twinsburg City Schools provides SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES to approximately 10% of its student body who have been identified as having a disability. These services include specialized instruction, modifications in curriculum, and accommodations as appropriate to access school programs. Eligibility for these services is determined through a multi-factored evaluation (MFE) by school personnel and parental input in accordance with state and federal definitions and regulations. An individualized educational program (IEP) is then determined by a team as well.
The Ohio Department of Education lists the following thirteen disability categories: 1. cognitive disability (mental retardation) 2. hearing impairment including deafness, 3. speech or language impairment, 4. visual impairment including blindness, 5. emotional disturbance, 6. orthopedic impairment, 7. autism, 8. traumatic brain injury, 9. other health impairment, 10. specific learning disability, 11. deaf-blindness, 12. multiple disabilities, 13. developmental delay. A team of two full time and two part-time PSYCHOLOGISTS provide for evaluation of students and consultation and assistance to the staff and families. Mrs. Vicki Robbins works at Wilcox, Dr. Marilyn Murray works at Dodge, THS, and Wilcox, Mrs. Kelly Hrach is at Bissell and R. B. Chamberllin Middle, and Mrs. Mindy Dible is at Twinsburg High School. Three full time and one part-time SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS assist our students with speech, language and auditory difficulties. Mrs. Robin Gelwasser works with our preschool children at Wilcox and students at THS. Mrs. Marie DeRoia works with school age children at Wilcox and students at THS. Mrs. Sarah Quartieri assists children at Bissell and R. B. Chamberlin, and Kristen Krupinski is the pathologist at Dodge. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives) is provided by Mrs. Terri Bissell, Ms. Tunde Ilkanich, and Ms.Melissa Dougherty. PHYSICAL THERAPY is handled by Diane Crockett. Penny Haser is our Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Transition Coordinator. She coordinates student centered activities designed to facilitate the students movement from school to post school activities.
