The potential for a DELAYED START or SCHOOL CLOSINGS may occur during the school year.  The determination as to whether school is delayed or closed begins at approximately 4:00 a.m.  School district employees assess the road conditions by driving school district areas.  Other area school and city officials are consulted before the final decision is made to delay or close school.  Generally, the superintendent will follow the recommendations of a number of school and other officials and make the decision to delay or close school between 5:15 and 5:45 a.m.

Delayed Start:

→ School will begin two hours after the regularly scheduled start times for students and staff.

→ The morning Preschool and morning LatchKey programs are cancelled.

→ No bus transportation will be provided for the morning Cuyahoga Valley Career Center session.

→ All other busses, including private school busses, will be on a two-hour delayed schedule; that is, two hours later

than the regular morning pick-up time for students.

Please remember that the safety of your child is our first concern.  Do not drop off your child prior to the delayed

start time, because all school buildings will be closed until two hours after the regularly scheduled start time.

The school day will end at the regularly scheduled time.

If school is cancelled for the remainder of the day, you will receive a second AlertNow message by 8 am.

Closing:

→ No buildings are open.

→ All after-school activities and meetings are cancelled.

Notice of  delayed start or closing will be posted on the District Website; broadcast by television stations, radio stations and AlertNow Notification Service.

  • AlertNow Notification Service will send telephone messages to parents and legal guardians about school emergencies or events, school delays or cancellations due to inclement weather, as well as remind you of Open Houses and Conferences. You will also be called to verify your child's absence if we have not heard from you. The successful use of this system is dependent upon accurate contact information for each student, so please make certain that we have current phone numbers.  On the first day of school, your student will bring home a Student Emergency Card which has a special area for three contact numbers to be used for the new school year by AlertNow. All three numbers will receive absence and emergency calls. In addition, the first listed number will receive snow day and general calls. Please return the form to your student's building as soon as possible.
